Dear MSSA Community,
I write today to announce that next year, my twelfth as Head of School at The Montessori School of San Antonio, will be my last in that capacity.
My decision is personal but not private. While this is a retirement of sorts, I am not quite ready to head straight for The Land of Guys with Incredibly Clean Garages. Instead, after 39 years of working in education – 20 of those as a Head of School – I intend to return to the classroom myself as a student to earn a master’s degree and license in mental health counseling. My plan is to continue to serve families but in a different capacity and with a fresh set of skills, perhaps ultimately sharing a practice with my wife Alison.
In terms of what is next for MSSA, I leave that in the very capable hands of our Board of Trustees. MSSA is a thriving school with a clear mission and bright future. Whatever leadership direction the Board takes for 2020-2021 and beyond, I am confident that the choice will be the best of many excellent options. Whoever steps into this role will inherit talented faculty, bright and motivated students, and a uniquely supportive parent community. It has been, and will be, a dream job.
I am thankful beyond words for my time at MSSA and relationships here that I will always treasure. Between now and the end of next year I pledge my full energies to the service of a school that does so much good for so many children, and to a smooth transition into MSSA’s next phase of leadership.
With gratitude and respect,
