MSSA PVO Bylaws
NAME
The name of this organization shall be the Parent Volunteer Organization (PVO) of The Montessori School of San Antonio (MSSA).
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the PVO is to:
- Promote a positive spirit and sense of service within the school and extended community.
- Support the school in the achievement of its mission and strategic initiatives.
The mission of the PVO will be carried out in collaboration with the Head of School (HOS) and the MSSA administration. Other than on appeals, the HOS has final authority on all PVO decisions.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership shall automatically include the parents and guardians of all currently enrolled students and the MSSA faculty and staff. No membership dues are required.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
- Event Chairs will be selected for the following events: Fall Family Festival, Fun Run, Gala, and Staff Support.
- The current Event Chairs, in collaboration with the school administration, will nominate Event Chairs for the following year. HOS will approve Event Chairs.
- All Event Chairs shall serve for a term of one year and serve at the discretion of the HOS.
- Qualifications for Event Chair require one full school year of active volunteer participation.
DUTIES OF EVENT CHAIRS
The Event Chairs shall lead their individual Standing Committees. Past and future Event Chairs for each academic year shall create an annual PVO budget subject to approval by the HOS. The Standing Committees are:
- Fall Family Festival: Shall coordinate the Fall Family Festival in collaboration with the MSSA administration.
- Fun Run: Shall coordinate the Fun Run in collaboration with the MSSA administration.
- Gala: Shall organize and carry out the Gala to raise money, and shall coordinate efforts with the school to promote its development initiatives, in collaboration with the MSSA administration, subject to approval by the HOS.
- Staff Support: Shall coordinate teacher appreciation and teacher treats, in collaboration with the MSSA administration.
FUNCTION OF THE SCHOOL
The school’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following duties:
- To present an annual summary of PVO activities and monies in the PVO account at the first Parent Coffee of the school year.
- To approve the annual PVO budget, subject to approval by the HOS.
- To approve fundraising and other activities that involve the parents of MSSA, subject to approval by the HOS.
- To maintain the PVO account and distribute monies raised, subject to approval by the HOS.
- To support the efforts of the PVO, specifically the individual Standing Committees.
MEETINGS
Parent Coffees shall be held at regular intervals during the school year and at other times deemed necessary by the MSSA administration. Notice of meetings shall be given at least one week in advance.
Meetings of Event Chairs, in conjunction with the MSSA administration, shall be held routinely and as deemed necessary by the School and the Standing Committee. Any Event Chair who fails or refuses to serve, or is not represented at three consecutive meetings, may be replaced at the discretion of the HOS.
APPEAL PROCESS
Any disagreement with the stated organizational structure or matters that relate to the PVO shall be appealed to the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees has final say on all PVO appeal matters including the decision to not act or respond.
