Designed by Dr. Maria Montessori herself, the Pink Tower is one of the most famous Montessori learning materials. It consists of 10 cubes ranging in sizes from 1 cubic centimeter to 10 cubic centimeters.
It is Sensorial learning material, designed to help children refine their senses. By keeping all of the cubes in the same color, shape and texture, the child can begin to understand differences in dimensions and size. This helps develop the mathematical mind through geometry and numbers (there are 10 cubes), as well as the language mind (cube, small, large, etc).
But why is it pink? Dr. Montessori discovered that children were most attracted to this color compared to others.
